Ever Feel Like Quitting

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place… and I don´t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently, if you let it. You, me or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life. But ain’t about how hard you hit… It’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward… how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That´s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you worth, go out and get what you worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying: You ain´t what you wanna be because of him or her or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain´t you! You´re better than that!” (Rocky Balboa)
Meet George Jetson, He Lives a Block From Google

Did you grow up on Twilight Zone, the Jetsons, and Star Trek? Then you were fed a daily dose of either machines that were slaves to humans needs, or monsters that enslaved us like perhaps in The Mztrix.
Well these possibilities are being applauded or feared by many in the science community. Because it turns out that a new University has popped up right down the street from the Googleplex in Mountain View, California. The school called Singularity University will offer courses on biotechnology, nano-technology and artificial intelligence.
This is a joint collaberation between NASA (yah the Space agency) and Google.
The so-called “singularity” is a theorized period of rapid technological progress in the near future. Mr Kurzweil, an American inventor, popularized the term in his 2005 book “The Singularity is Near”.
Proponents say that during the singularity, machines will be able to improve themselves using artificial intelligence and that smarter-than-human computers will solve problems including energy scarcity, climate change and hunger.
From Wikipedia:
The technological singularity is a theoretical future point of unprecedented technological progress, caused in part by the ability of machines to improve themselves using artificial intelligence.[1]Statistician I. J. Good first wrote of an “intelligence explosion”, suggesting that if machines could even slightly surpass human intellect, they could improve their own designs in ways unforeseen by their designers, and thus recursively augment themselves into far greater intelligences. The first such improvements might be small, but as the machine became more intelligent it would become better at becoming more intelligent, which could lead to an exponential and quite sudden growth in intelligence.

Warm Up to the Pine Mountain Logs In Venice

I went to High School with some of these guys. Mark (the blonde singer) was a genius in my art class. We(alumni) make a trek down to San Diego to the Belly Up at least once a year to relive our youth and party down with some of the most talented musicians you never heard of:Venice and their alter ego Pine Mountain Logs. They have tons of stuff on YouTube and thier site Venice Central. Some dirt on the band. Mark was once rumored to date Cher (we was a singer in her stage band) . And Kippie (the dark haired singer) was once a heart throb in Tiger Beat. These guys are almost all related to the famous Lennon Sisters. David Crosby has heralded these guys as the best harmonic band in the business today.

Anyone that grew up in the 80’s in Socal has some sort of affinity for Van Halen of none other than Pasadena. There are old backyard party tapes that if you search long enough you will find of a rough David Lee Roth workin’ out for his future fame.
My cousin Brian Geller headlines a band called Fan Halen and was invited on stage not too long ago with none other than Sammy Hagar. They have played several House Of Blues venues as well as festivals in Texas and Arizona.
